As summer begins to wind down, many families start thinking about the return to school. Whether your child is joining Mid Cape Montessori for the first time or returning for another wonderful year, a little preparation can help make the transition smooth and exciting.

Here are a few simple ways to get ready together.
Reintroduce Daily Routines
Summer schedules often look different from the school year. A week or two before school begins, start adjusting bedtime and morning routines so children have time to ease back into a predictable schedule.
Consistent routines help children feel secure and confident as the first day approaches.
Encourage Independence
One of the best ways to prepare children for school is by letting them practice doing things on their own.
Encourage your child to:
Put on their own shoes
Hang up a jacket
Wash their hands independently
Help prepare simple snacks
Clean up after activities
These everyday tasks build confidence and align beautifully with the Montessori philosophy.
Talk Positively About School
Children often take emotional cues from the adults around them. Talk about school with excitement, answer questions honestly, and focus on all the fun experiences they'll have like making friends, exploring new materials, and learning new things.
Read Together
Books about starting school can help children understand what to expect and open conversations about any feelings they may have.
Trust the Transition
It's completely normal for children to need a little time to adjust. Our experienced teachers work closely with families to help every child feel safe, welcomed, and supported as they settle into their new routines.
At Mid Cape Montessori, we're looking forward to another year filled with curiosity, confidence, and joyful learning. We can't wait to welcome both new and returning families back to our classrooms.
