Our Classrooms

Lower Elementary

"

Our Lower Elementary mixed-age classroom includes students in grades one, two, and three. Students in this age group are starting to explore their world intellectually as they grow beyond early childhood and their exploration of the physical world.

Education between the ages of six to twelve is not a direct continuation of that which has gone before, though it is built upon that basis.  Psychologically there is a decided change in personality, and we recognize that nature has made this a period for the acquisition of culture, just as the former was for the absorption of the environment.

Upper Elementary

Our Upper Elementary mixed-age classroom includes students from grades four, five, and six. Students in this age range continue to explore their intellectual world and move towards greater independence and adolescence.

"

We are confronted with a considerable development of consciousness that has already taken place, but now that consciousness is thrown outwards with a special direction, intelligence being extroverted, and there is an unusual demand on the part of the child to know the reasons for things.

Adolescent

Our Adolescent program is for students in grades seven and eight. Students in this new plane of development are exploring their social world as they prepare to enter the larger community.

"

"

The chief symptom of adolescence is a state of expectation, a tendency towards creative work and a need for the strengthening of self-confidence.
