Every child deserves an education that fits who they are. At Mid Cape Montessori, that fit is intentional.

We serve grades 1 through 8 in mixed‑age classrooms designed for students with diverse learning profiles, including children with ADHD, 504 plans, and uneven academic strengths who need more flexibility than a traditional setting provides.

Located in Brewster on the Dennis line, our Cape Cod campus draws families from across the mid and lower Cape. For added accessibility, we have access to vans that can provide transportation from the Exit 6 area in Barnstable when demand supports a route.

Why Montessori is a natural fit for unique learners

Montessori education is built on self‑paced, hands‑on learning in a carefully prepared environment. Students choose meaningful work, move with purpose, and learn through multisensory materials that turn abstract ideas into concrete understanding. This approach supports:

  • Self‑regulation and calm focus through freedom of movement, small group lessons, and a low‑stress classroom culture

  • Executive function growth with guided planning, prioritizing, and reflecting on progress throughout the week

  • Strength‑based learning so a child can be ahead in math while still getting targeted support in reading without stigma

Quick answer for searchers: Montessori can be an excellent option for kids with ADHD because it pairs movement with learning, emphasizes hands-on materials, and builds executive function through structured freedom and individualized work plans.

Mixed‑age classrooms that make differentiation feel normal

Our classrooms are organized as 1–3, 4–6, and 7–8. This multi‑age structure lets students progress at the right level in each subject rather than being locked to a single grade line. A child might work at a higher math level while receiving extra reading support, and that variability is expected and celebrated in a Montessori environment.

What learning looks like, day to day

A typical day at Mid Cape Montessori features long, uninterrupted work periods, small lessons, and independent and collaborative projects. Students select work from their plan, receive guidance from trained Montessori educators, and spend time outside each day when weather permits.

What families notice:

  • Hands‑on, multisensory materials in math, language, science, and cultural studies

  • A peace corner or quiet area for self‑regulation and reflection when students need a reset

  • Work plans that help children learn to manage time and follow through on commitments across the week

  • No traditional homework so home can be for rest, play, and family life while still encouraging reading by choice

Myth to truth: Will Montessori prepare my child for middle and high school?

Yes. Montessori asks students to plan their work, track progress, and take ownership of learning, which maps directly to the independence expected in later grades. By practicing executive function skills early, students build the habits they need for multi‑step projects, long‑term deadlines, and self‑advocacy in secondary school settings.

Who we serve on Cape Cod

Families choose Mid Cape Montessori when a child is bright, curious, or hands‑on, yet not fully supported by a conventional classroom. Our program is a strong fit for children who benefit from movement and choice, who learn best with concrete materials, or who need the time and space to develop executive functioning without unnecessary pressure.
