Why May Is the Best Time to Consider a School Change

If you’ve been questioning whether your child’s current school is the right fit, May is one of the best times to take action.

By this point in the school year, patterns are clear. You’ve likely seen how your child responds to their environment, whether they feel confident, supported, and engaged or frustrated and disconnected.
Many families wait until summer to explore new options, but there are real advantages to starting now.
Here’s why May matters:
You can see classrooms in action. Touring during the school year allows you to observe real learning, not just empty classrooms.
Your child can try a day. A trial day offers valuable insight into whether the environment feels like a good fit.
You have time to make thoughtful decisions. No last-minute stress before fall.
At Mid Cape Montessori, we welcome spring tours and trial days because we believe families should experience the classroom firsthand.
This is especially important for children who haven’t thrived in traditional settings. If your child struggles with focus, anxiety, or rigid expectations, seeing a Montessori classroom in action can be eye-opening.
Enrollment timelines to keep in mind:
Second round financial aid: May 15th
Enrollment applications: May 31st (rolling admission may be available after this date if spots remain)
We will continue offering tours over the summer, but May is the best time to see the full classroom experience.
If you're even considering a change, now is the time to explore.
